This necklace like others in the AVAE series focuses on the beauty of the pearl. In this case an 11-11.5mm Tahitian beauty of greenish hues. Like the AVAE toru necklace, this necklace has two tapered flanges that frame the pearl and transition to the cord in graceful fashion. However this necklace also features a large silver rounded-square bead featuring the mark of the ancient tribes of Tahiti least we forget the origin of this magnificent gift of the sea. The necklace has a sterling silver clasp and is adjustable between 16.5” and 20.5” in length.
This powerful necklace comes to us from Tahizea in Tahiti where the same folks who designed and made it also grew the pearl that was set in it. The AVAE maha necklace is part of the Kanao (tribal) collection and was designed to be worn by both men and women. The amazing beauty of the pearl in this piece like all Tahitian pearls is the product of over five years of work from the cultivation and growth of the oyster to the cultivation of the pearl that is the final product. Many oysters die along the way or do not produce pearls, so when a beautiful pearl does emerge, it is cause for celebration. A spectacular gem produced by nature ready to wear as is. It is no wonder that pearls have been thought by many through history to be invested with the power to bring wealth, good luck, health and happiness.
