This necklace like others in the AVAE series focuses on the beauty of the pearl. In this case an 11-11.5mm Tahitian beauty of greenish hues. Like the AVAE toru necklace, this necklace has two tapered flanges that frame the pearl and transition to the cord in graceful fashion. However this necklace also features a large silver rounded-square bead featuring the mark of the ancient tribes of Tahiti least we forget the origin of this magnificent gift of the sea. The necklace has a sterling silver clasp and is adjustable between 16.5” and 20.5” in length.
This is a wonderful design that speaks directly of Tahitian pearls and their origin. The sterling silver pendant depicts a motu or an islet much like the small islands that fan out across the Gambier and Tuamotu archipelago where Tahitian black pearls are found. Set within the motu pendant is a solitary 10mm Tahitian pearl. The 21.5” chain length makes this piece ideal for men or larger women. For those wanting a shorter length we offer the same design called MOTU Vahine which is on a chain just over 17.5”.
This necklace also plays off of the “motu theme” with a pendant that represents a Tahitian motu, or island with a gorgeous black pearl set inside but off-set to the side. The motu shape of this pendant is different than those of the “MOTU” collection. These are more pear-shaped whereas the MOTU line have pendants that are shaped more like a “cat’s eye”. The pearl in this pendant is 10mm and the pendant hangs from a large loop sterling silver chain 17.75” long.
