ANELA Necklace
This classic island necklace design is sometimes called a “SurferPearl” cord necklace; so named for the fact that surfers originally brought the style back to Hawaii from Tahiti and now you can find these cord necklaces worn everywhere. Although a popular style in the surfing community it is also a great casual look for anyone. The simple style appeals to men and women alike. This is a necklace to wear with a bathing suit, a pair of jeans or any casual outfit. The pearl is a genuine Golden Southsea pearl. Southsea pearls come the waters of Northern Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines. The pearl used in this necklace is a huge 14mm slightly button-shaped golden pearl with high surface quality. The cord is high grade 2mm natural tan leather cord from Greece tied with sliding knots that adjust from 14.5” to 27” (36cm to 68cm).

Southsea pearls are the rarest and most valuable of pearls. Southsea pearls come naturally in either golden, silver and white colors. They are known for their sometimes huge size which can reach up to 16mm. Southsea pearls are also appreciated for their amazing satin-like luster and richness which comes from their thick nacre 2-6mm (vs. some other pearl types such as Akoya where the nacre is generally <1mm thick). Southsea pearls can grow so huge due to the fact that they come from a huge oyster variety called the Pinctada Maxima that can reach up to 12 inches across. To capitalize on the ability of these oysters to create huge pearls, pearl farmers will generally let the pearls grow for two years before harvesting, twice the time required for most Akoya pearls. The name of this necklace is Anela; meaning Angel. A perfect name for a pearl of this beauty.
