This stunning 16 inch black pearl necklace features 8-9mm semi-baroque pearls of various colors ranging from shades of green to silver and grey with some having hints of purple (aubergine) and copper. The stylish clasp, made of gold-plated sterling silver, is not only very attractive but very secure and easy to get on and off. Tahitian cultured pearls are grown in black-lip oysters (Pinctada Margaritifera) in the pristine blue lagoons of the atolls in the Gambier and Tuamotu archipelago. The process requires constant vigilance and is fraught with risk. Only a relatively small percentage of the oysters make it to adulthood, survive the cultivation process and produce a high-quality pearl. These rare beauties are truly a gift from God.
