This is a fun Necklace that is adjustable between 14.5” (37cm) and 15.5” (39cm). It features an abalone shell carved flower with three freshwater pearls in the center and dangling below on sterling silver chains are five dark grey pearls with pink overtone. The flower pendant slides in 8 thin leather cords (4 pink and 4 grey) The clasp is a sterling silver spring ring.
Freshwater pearls come from mussels grown in freshwater ponds, lakes or rivers. Most freshwater pearls on the market these days are produced in China. The quality of freshwater pearls has risen dramatically in the past few years but fortunately pricing has increased only modestly. Freshwater pearls differ significantly from their saltwater cousins in that they are composed of 100% nacre where as saltwater cultured pearls are nacre covered shell beads that have been implanted in the oyster. |
